Cross training is defined as a process in which companies teach their employees the responsibilities and skills of another position within the company in order to enhance their effectiveness. Cross trained employees are extremely valuable for a business because of the advantages they can give to the employers. As a matter of fact, this form of training is also beneficial for the employee. These advantages should be considered by companies whenever possible and they should include the process of cross training in the regular course of business or in the orientation of the employee. A major benefit of cross trained employees is their ability of covering for workers who are unable to come into work because of vacation, illness or countless other reasons.
